Create Dupes for Discontinued Lipsticks: Shiseido's "Frankly Red"

Create Dupes for Discontinued Lipsticks: Shiseido's "Frankly Red"

← Back to blog

A few years back, my mom gifted me with one of her old lipsticks from the 90s: Shiseido’s Frankly Red. Since that day, this has been my favorite. Red. Lipstick. Ever. It’s classic, bright, and the perfect tone for me (finding the right red can be hard, right?). Because it was so well loved, I soon found the lipstick used almost all the way up. When I asked my mom where I could repurchase the shade, however, I was shocked - the color was discontinued.

After talking with my mom, aunt, and other female role models, I’ve realized that women their age - those that wouldn’t have been caught dead without a great lip during the 80s - have dealt with the discontinuation of their favorite shades for years. It occurred to me recently, however, that I could dupe this shade with Finding Ferdinand’s base colors. With Nob Hill Red and Bing Cherry in hand, I set out to create my very own True Red. I was pretty proud of the results.

Here's the formula for FF's True Red:

Since recreating this color was so fun, I've decided to start a series of discontinued lipstick dupes! Keep an eye out for more shades coming soon on the Color Guide.

P.S. - if you're having trouble creating the perfect dupe, shoot us an email at hello@findingferdinand.com, and we’ll work with you to come up with your perfect match!
